ISV Solutions Worth Considering for Your Next Dynamics 365 FinOps Implementation

This blog outlines some of the ISV solutions that may be of value to a Dynamics 365 FinOps ERP system saving implementation time and money and delivering process improvement benefits.

Over the past decade I have had experience with these ISV solutions and included a small selection that have added value to FinOps implementations.

ISV Solution

What it Does

Benefit

Docentric

Speeds up and simplifies the development of commercial documents (sales confirmations, sales invoices, purchase orders, etc.). It uses a Microsoft Word plugin to create the commercial documents so is easy to use for any consultant proficient with FinOps and Word.

Development may be required to expose new tables and fields in the FinOps API but this is usually the limit of the coding needed.

Fast to develop FinOps commercial documents

No or minimal reliance on FinOps developers

Lower implementation costs

ClickLearn

ClickLearn is an app that rapidly creates FinOps training material and documentation. A training content creator runs a FinOps work process in a browser and ClickLearn captures screen shots and details (menu, form name, fields, etc.). Content is saved to a ClickLearn portal and can be edited/updated. Once published users are able to view the training content in the ClickLearn portal or download in PDF, Word, or PowerPoint formats.

Fastest and easiest way to create FinOps training material

TimeXtender

TimeXtender is a BI tool for rapidly building BI data pipelines between the FinOps database and Power BI or other data visualisation tools. Capable data teams can quickly learn TimeXtender to build data pipelines in Azure Fibric or similar. The focus is on the design and less on the coding as TimeXtender picks up the coding load.

Reduced time to Power BI reports for finance, operations and analysts

Lower BI and reporting costs

Farsight Demand Forecasting

Farsight provide a Demand Forecasting solution that is built into FinOps. Farsight's forecasting engine generates forecasts based on demand history (sales orders, invoices, production), allows sales management input/override, and loads the forecast into FinOps ready for Master Planning. It is relative quick to implement with the demand planner focused on using Farsight to drive the sales and operations planning process.

Rapid implementation

Easy to use

No integration

Azure Logic Apps

Whilst not an ISV solution, as it is a Microsoft Azure application, ALA is often the first choice for FinOps integration to internal and external systems. It does require FinOps and/or ALA developers but is quick to prototype automated workflows and has the appropriate FinOps connectors.

Using ALA can be based on a consumption model, so the costs are lower to start switching to a fixed monthly cost when volumes increase.

Rapid development

Lives in the Azure environment

Costs are manageable

Remember to:

  1. Determine if these ISV solutions are a fit for an implementation

  2. There are many other ISV solutions in the Dynamics market so do a full search and evaluation before selecting
